About The Book
The book is an assessment of Jawaharlal Nehru’s letters mostly written to his daughter. It also endeavours to highlight Nehru’s speeches delivered on various occasions across India. Nehru would have earned an immortal name in world literature even if he would not have been a politician and a statesman. His deep understanding of India’s cultural and literary ethos and his vision for India earning an important place in the world could be understood from his writings, most particularly from his letters. His speeches resonated with his ideas for India and they reveal his powers of oratory soaked in deep love and compassion for the countrymen. He was always animated while delivering the speeches. The speeches reveal his sweeping knowledge of world history and politics. His profound love for India permeates through his letters and speeches. This book is a humble endeavour to re-orient the present generation of readers about Nehru’s legacy as a writer with the plea that his literary merits should be given their due credit irrespective of the political debates which are bound to continue as long as India survives as a nation. These debates in themselves are not bad if they are really intended to trace out truth in its truest perspective being free from any sort of prejudice or from any political dogma. The writer believes that this book would help serve this purpose, however little it may be.
